Autumnal Skincare Guide

The sunkissed days of summer have given way to those cosy mornings. A slight chill in the air lets us know it’s time for gathering, harvesting and turning inwards.

Slowly we layer up our jumpers and reach for woollen socks. Candles make their return and the soft glow of the first golden leaves brings back the nostalgia that one only really experiences in autumn.

As the apples stew on the stove and Billy Holiday echos through the kitchen, we begin to transition from the radiance of summer into the comforts of autumn. Afternoon hot chocolates replace fragrant lavender teas. Quilts are collected from chairs and lovingly adorn beds. Foraging baskets are filled with rosehips and blackberries.

With the seasonal transition, we also tend lovingly to our bodies. Adding in nourishing night serums and our beloved Seer Eye Balm for an extra touch of hydration as the chill evenings set in. We love to follow nature's rhythm by introducing seasonal ingredients such as rosehip, beetroot and elderberries, all rich in vitamins and minerals that support us, inside and out, throughout the darker half of the year.

Here are our favourite ways to stay beautifully nourished this autumn:

Introduce a richer weekly cleansing mask. With the fluctuations in the weather, our skin can become drier as we settle into a new season - especially with wet weather and radiators. We recommend our nourishing Onead Nourishing Facial Mask to your weekly skincare ritual. Imbued with milk, honey and the soft beauty of calendula and chamomile, which soothe skin and offer deep nourishment. Mix with oat or cow's milk for an extra creamy blend.

Mother Nature’s wild pantry is filled with berries that we can harvest to promote more radiant skin. One of our favourites is rosehip. Known to be high in vitamin C this powerful berry can help support our skin and bring that much-loved rosy glow on grey days. You can find rosehip in our Faerie Nourishing Facial Balm or create your own herbal facial oil using fresh rosehip berries and olive oil, combined and infused in sunlight for 4 weeks.

Here in Ireland, the western winds can be blustery and cold. To keep your lips luscious, even in the Irish storms, carry a pot of our lip balm. Morrigan is our beloved winter shade, containing rose, elderberry and beetroot for deep rosey colour. You can also choose from Posie, with a dash of pink, or Litha, with a fresh minty taste.

As the season of cradling a warm brew from noon til night has begun, you can begin your skincare from within, with a sip of beauty-boosting tea. With rose, nettle & clover, our May You Walk In Beauty Tisane includes a thoughtful blend of mineral-rich and toning herbs and flowers that support your liver, lymphatic system and hormonal balance. Drinking herbal teas is a great way to stay hydrated too!

Keeping circulation flowing is key to having glowing skin all year round. Once or twice a week we recommend a herbal body massage. As it’s autumn, you can gently heat up (by placing the bottle in a mug of warm water) one of our body oils and massage it into damp skin, ideally after a warm bath. Begin at your feet and work upwards towards the arm pits to stimulate your lymphatic system. Flora Breast and Body Oil is our favourite for this time of year - as it’s essential oil free it’s perfect for those with sensitive skin and pregnant mamas. If you have one, using a dry brush before is great for exfoliation!
